The Augusta Police Department Records Division is staffed by one Patrol Person and two civilian clerical persons. The records division is commanded by Lt. J. Christopher Read who also is the Supervisor for the Communications 911 Center which is a 24 hour a day operation. Lt. Read is closely assisted by Officer Raymond Moinester who is the Court Officer.

Some of the duties of the records personnel include the following:

  • Data Entry
  • Filing of Paperwork/Copying of Records
  • Insurance Claims
  • Assisting Citizens
  • Collection of Restitution and other Misc. Fees
  • Maintenance of files containing, fingerprint cards, Bureau Folders, and Case Dispositions
  • Video Tapes Booking/Cruiser
  • U.C.R. Uniform Crime Reporting
  • Statistics
  • Property/Evidence
  • Auctions of recovered unclaimed properties
  • Court Officer (arraignments, court notices, subpoenas, protective orders, and other misc. paperwork)
  • Departmental Office Supplies
  • Communications Equipment Maintenance
  • Building and Facility Maintenance
  • Quality Control of Records

As you can see, the four regular employees in the Records Division are kept very busy.

From time to time, when an officer is injured and is placed on light duty they are temporarily assigned to Records Division to lend a helping hand.

Calls for service is updated on a monthly basis and is furnished to the public upon request and to the major publications for reprint.
